What to Expect from the Courts Process
If a decision is made to prosecute the person who committed a crime against you, you may be asked to be a witness in the Court Case against the perpetrator.
If you are asked to be a witness, there a range of supports that are available to you. These are laid out in The Victims Charter and can be found by clicking on the links below. There are also many services that provide court accompaniment, and these services are free and confidential. Details of these organisations can be found in the Directory of Victim Services or by ringing the Crime Victims Helpline on Freephone 116-006.
The Victims Charter also provides information on The Coroner Service whose function it is to investigate sudden and unexplained deaths so that a death certificate can be issued
